The Best Non-Alcoholic Wines at Whole Foods, Ranked
Whole Foods has quietly become one of the better places to find non-alcoholic wine in person. No need to order online and wait. You can grab a bottle the same day. The selection isn’t huge, but it’s curated enough to be worth navigating.
I’ve tried most of what’s on the shelf. My test for any NA wine is simple: does it taste like the real thing, and does it taste good? If yes, it belongs here. If not, I’ll tell you that too.
Here’s the honest breakdown.
Claro Curioso Sauvignon Blanc: Buy This
This is the best NA wine currently on the Whole Foods shelf, and it’s not particularly close.
It’s a dealcoholized New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, the kind of wine that actually tastes like what it says on the label. Crisp, a little citrusy, dry enough to drink with food. If you’ve been disappointed by NA whites in the past, this one is worth trying before you write off the category.
The catch: Whole Foods promotes it heavily and it sells out. If you see it, grab it. Read the full Claro Curioso Sauvignon Blanc review.
Villa a la Mer Rosé: Buy This
This one surprised me. I’m not a wine sommelier, but the Villa a la Mer Rosé genuinely tasted like a rosé. A decent one. For a sober person standing in the wine aisle thinking “I want wine,” this hits the mark.
That’s my go/no-go line for any NA product: does it taste like the real thing, and does it taste good? This one clears both. Red berries, citrus, clean finish, no strange aftertaste. It’s a Whole Foods house brand, so you can only get it there, which makes it an easy grab when you’re already shopping. Read the full Villa a la Mer Rosé review.
Villa a la Mer Blanc: Decent Backup
Less prominent on the shelf than Claro, but worth knowing about. The blanc is light and inoffensive, more neutral than the Claro Sauvignon Blanc, which can be a feature depending on what you’re pairing it with. If the Claro is sold out, this is a reasonable fallback.
Villa a la Mer also makes a red blend. See above re: NA reds. Read the full Villa a la Mer Blanc review.
Josh Cellars Non-Alcoholic Sparkling Wine: Situational
Josh is a brand people recognize, which is probably why Whole Foods stocks it prominently. The sparkling is fine for what it is. It is a celebratory NA option that looks the part, pours with bubbles, and doesn’t embarrass you at a dinner party.
It’s not going to fool anyone who drinks wine regularly. But if you want something festive and the occasion calls for a bottle rather than a can, this works. Read the full Josh Cellars NA Sparkling review.
Claro Curioso Cabernet Sauvignon: Skip This
The white is good. The red is not.
This is the fundamental problem with NA red wine as a category. Removing alcohol strips out the tannins and body that make red wine interesting, and what’s left often tastes flat, slightly sweet, and vaguely grape-adjacent. The Claro Curioso Cabernet is a good example of that problem. It’s not undrinkable, but it’s not wine either.
If you’re a red wine drinker, nothing on this shelf is going to scratch that itch yet. That’s not a Claro problem specifically. It’s just where the category is right now. Read the full Claro Curioso Cabernet review.
Fre Red Blend: Skip This
Fre has been around longer than most NA wines, which is either a sign of staying power or a sign that nobody has bothered to replace it yet. The red blend falls into the same category trap as the Claro red. It is thin, sweet, missing what makes red wine worth drinking.
The Fre whites and sparkling have better reputations. The red is not the move. Read the full Fre Red Blend review.
